Tragic Incident A landslide on Sunday morning on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district resulted in the death of three people and injured eight others. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which has been conducting rescue operations, reported that the landslide occurred near Chirbasa as pilgrims were trekking from Gaurikund to the Kedarnath temple.
Victims Identified The deceased have been identified as Kishore Arun Parate, 31, from Nagpur, Maharashtra; Sunil Mahadev Kale, 24, from Jalna, Maharashtra; and Anurag Bisht, 22, from Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand.
Rescue Operations The Rudraprayag district control room alerted the SDRF team about the landslide. Upon receiving the information, the SDRF team, led by Inspector Anirudh Singh Bhandari, quickly arrived at the scene with necessary rescue equipment and carried out the operation.
Weather Warning The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand for the next three days. The forecast predicts intense downpours across the region. Earlier, a landslide had also closed the Gangotri National Highway near Bishanpur.
Yatra Update The ongoing Char Dham Yatra has registered over 26 lakh pilgrims from across India and abroad. Since the Kedarnath temple opened on May 10, more than 1 lakh devotees have visited. To date, around 7 lakh pilgrims have participated in the Char Dham Yatra. Earlier this year, a bus carrying Char Dham Yatra pilgrims overturned in Rajasthan’s Dausa, injuring at least 20 people. The pilgrims were returning from Kedarnath to Badrinath at the time.
