Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has raised concerns about her husband’s safety and well-being while he is detained in Adiala Jail. During an informal interaction with journalists at the prison on Saturday, she recounted previous incidents where Khan was shot at and allegedly poisoned, as reported by The Express Tribune.
Fears for Safety Bushra Bibi expressed her own fears for her safety, highlighting that their request for an investigation into the alleged poisoning has not been addressed by the court.
Allegations of Poor Conditions Bushra Bibi described the deplorable conditions in the jail, claiming that Imran Khan is kept in unsanitary surroundings and provided with contaminated food. She recounted that during their meeting at Attock Jail, Khan appeared malnourished and spent the night removing insects from his hair. She criticized the disparity in treatment between political prisoners and convicted criminals, noting that while other inmates receive royal treatment, Khan suffers without even basic facilities.
Interaction with Media When questioned by a reporter about allegations of mixing toilet cleaner with food and her accusations against the authorities, Bushra Bibi confirmed, “the claims were true.” Imran Khan briefly intervened, suggesting that “censored media won’t broadcast your words,” as reported by the Indian Express. Journalists protested his remark, asserting that all his statements had been aired.
Ongoing Legal Battles Imran Khan has been held in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023 due to a corruption case. He is facing over 200 legal cases.
