New Delhi: Food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy have increased their platform fees to ₹6 per order from the previous ₹5, marking a 20 percent hike.
Currently implemented in Delhi and Bengaluru, this platform fee is separate from delivery fees, goods and services tax (GST), restaurant charges, and handling charges. The increased fee will soon be applied to other cities as well.
The platform fee is intended to help food aggregators manage costs and boost revenues.
In April, Zomato raised its platform fee by 25 percent to ₹5 per order. Initially introduced at ₹2 in August last year, the platform fee was later increased to ₹3 to improve margins and achieve profitability.
By levying this platform fee, the food delivery platforms aim to generate ₹1.25-1.5 crore per day.
