Attacker Locates Patient and Opens Fire at Delhi Hospital

A 32-year-old man was fatally shot at a Delhi government hospital on Sunday, according to police reports. The incident occurred on the third floor of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital around 4 pm.

The victim, Riyazuddin, had been admitted to the hospital on June 23 due to stomach pain.

“Riyazuddin, a resident of Khajoori Khas, was shot dead in GTB hospital. We are currently reviewing surveillance footage,” stated Vishnu Kumar Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara.

The assailant, identified as an 18-year-old, fired 3-4 rounds and is currently on the run, police confirmed. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

“A doctor was bandaging Riyazuddin when the attacker suddenly appeared, fired five shots, and fled. Chaos and confusion ensued,” recounted Chancal, a hospital cleaning staff member who witnessed the attack.

Disturbing images from the scene show Riyazuddin lying in a pool of blood on his hospital bed, covered waist down with a pink blanket.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced that the government will review security measures at hospitals.

“Negligence will not be tolerated; those responsible will be held accountable. Security at all hospitals will be thoroughly reviewed,” declared the Delhi Minister.
